Why I'm hooked on my own supply of Whipped Body Butter
I’ve always enjoyed being on the journey to have super soft silky skin…I mean who doesn’t want that? Being “health conscious” since I’ve been little, I thought i was doing good by pumping globs of Aveeno body lotion onto my skin. After every shower, it became a ritual, that lotion was going on, or else I felt icky and dry. As I matured, and went through college, I continued to glob on that lotion. I had this really inspiring professor, and one day in my Food Studies class, I had we did a thorough analysis on marketing of ingredients. For some reason it got me thinking about everything I used throughout my day. What is actually in the lotion I use everyday? I didn’t actually know… I knew what I thought it was made of? Why do I think it’s good for me, oh because it says so! The lotion claims to be made with oatmeal, and shea, yet those are not even on the first ingredient line.
After really diving in I realized, I wouldn’t buy food that was marketed to be made with say oatmeal and almonds if they weren’t even being used on the first line, much less a ton of other ingredients! This is when I got thinking, I felt like my views on food and body care were in separate categories…when really they shouldn’t be much different at all. If you eat things with your hands, then why does it make sense to be so careless about what we put on our skin? Not only is 70 % of what we put on our skin getting absorbed, but we can accidentally ingest it, it can get into our cuts, our pets, and have it be transferred on surfaces. We shouldn’t be grossed out by what we are putting on our body, because how do we expect our body process that! Thinking about our skin as a filter, it protects us. Yet we are just putting crap through, as if attempting to clog our filter, as fast as possible. My question was, can I create my own skin care using nature, just like cooking from real ingredients. Nature has created something much better, much less loaded with crap! Thus the journey towards creating my own skin care evolved.
I experimented with several dozens of combinations, why whipped? Thinking about balms, and shea butter in its raw form. It’s kinda hard to use, right? Like your scooping this super rich amazing butter but its just so darn thick! Cocoa butter you can’t even spread, everything on its own, it’s all quite hard to use. Also combining a handful of different butters and oils, allows your skin to reap a variety of different benefits, vitamins and minerals, not just one. Kind of like how its good to have a variety of fruits and vegetables in your diet (at least thats how I think about it).
Simple.…Which would you rather put on your toast… whipped butter, or cut a stick? The way the whipped butter goes on your skin, is effortless, and a little bit goes a long way. Very simple! When you physically melt and combine, manipulating all the ingredients, then whip it together. It becomes luxurious to put on.
Tips: If the jar is stored in temperatures above 75, they can get kind of melty. So its important to not store it in your car! If it gets melty though, just pop that bad boy in the fridge and it should come back to life! Maybe not as whippy though.
