How I became okay with my husband eating pizza once a week

This post is for all the ladies looking to help their man get a bit healthier as we get older. It’s become “normal” to gain 1 or 2 pounds around the holiday, maybe more. This effect compounds overtime because as we age starting in our late 20’s as we age, our metabolism naturally slows. As lean body mass decreases those added pounds become harder and harder to shed. Hence why there is a billion dollar weight loss industry. One of my favorite nutrition professor once said, if dieting is the way to weight loss, and it is only growing then how are we more overweight and metabolically healthy than ever. We talk all the time about how easy it is to ignore listening to how your body feels and just eat whatever everyone else is when your out to eat, around the Holidays.

Zach’s main inspiration: “ I tried time restricted eating for a week and saw really good results and decided this is what I’ll do forever. Our trip to Thailand was one turning point. Another was just the gradual healthy eating and lifestyle changes overtime and noticing the dips of when I felt worse after prolonged unhealthy habits (not working out, ice cream whenever I wants, chips, and pizza. I didn’t feel good eating what I was eating even though I thought all that stuff made me happy. Turns out is just makes me feel happy for a second and then worse long term. Then that gradual decline in overall wellness becomes the new baseline.”

Zach’s main motivation to get healthier: ”Seeing myself in pictures was the big thing. Also the start of the covid pandemic encouraged me to want to be at my best metabolic health considering obesity greatly increases complications from the sickness. It was just a good time to do it. No better opportunity to take care of myself. “

Every Friday (Friday at Whole Foods its 2 for $22 Large pizzas you really can’t beat it!) Zach gets pizza. He looks forward to it every week, and I mean all week. That’s something he has taught me for sure, balance. If you are super disciplined 99% of the time, it’s more thank okay, actually needed to treat yourself. Im 100% an all or nothing gal naturally that is my personality. Zach is much more about balance, and I love that about him! I used to give him a hard time every single time he ate pizza. Over time I realized he was going to eat the pizza either way. Eventually I realized i should let him enjoy it. Pizza Fridays are a ritual for him, and not only make it so much easier for him to stay disciplined during the week, but makes the pizza that much more special and delicious. If I gave him a hard time about it, it changes nothing and kinda tainted the moment! Im so proud of him everyday, and continue to learn from him. It’s Friday so were off to pizza!! Have a great night :)

Zach’s Rules to live by

  1. Time restricted eating: Eating between 10am-7pm only. Which means he has a 9 hr eating window eating. He is really religious about sticking to this. Only to be purposely broken 2x or so a year for special social commitments. He finds this makes it really easy to eat whatever he wants for the most part, but cuts down on craving. “ You find yourself not wanting to eat all that shit, because you are not starving all the time. Once you feel good, you find yourself always wanting to feel good. It’s nerve wracking to eat stuff you know will not make you feel good.”

  2. “No soda… obviously”

  3. Sleep a lot

  4. Listen to your wife ;)
